Fifty years ago, Apollo 11 landed on the moon. I was lying in front of my family's TV set, holding my breath, listening to Walter Cronkite give the play by play.
For me, the Apollo missions to the moon meant anything was possible. They inspired my imagination, and I knew that all the stuff in Sci-fi space movies and shows could legitimately happen. This show celebrates our space program and my wonderful childhood memories of pretending to be an astronaut.
Manny Burruel often uses subject matter that connects to his past and triggers a nostalgic connection for the viewer. In the 90s, Burruel studied art at Glendale Community College and was juried into the MARS (Movimiento Artistico del Rio Salado) Art Space. He has since shown his work in galleries and museums throughout Arizona. He is currently an affiliated artist with XICO Arte y Cultura. More of his work can be seen at mannysartgallery.com.
